In Brief:
“Jesus is the Son of God who showed us the Father and is leading us back Home.” That is the core of what we have been discovering throughout this Advent 2010 season together. But the real question we need to wrestle with is – so what now? How do I respond? What’s next?
Peter hit on this idea of a needed response to Jesus while writing to the churches he mentored. He pointed out that we are a chosen people who do things differently. We were rescued out of our darkness and into God’s glorious light for a reason – to worship! (see 1 Peter 2:9). We are to be madly in love with Jesus, the one who lights up our lives.
Worship can range in style, but the heart & life of it is always the same. The heart is humble (John 3:30) and it’s permeated into the very fabric of your life. It is also a choice we make – to worship or not to worship (Eph 5:8).
Taking a look back at the lives of those who first “advented” Jesus we see that it’s all about loving the Light. Mary (Lk. 1:46-55), Simion (Lk 2:28-32), and the Shepherds (Lk 2:20) all had a very direct, personal experience with Jesus, the Word made flesh. And they all responded in adoration & praise. We see another set of worshipers, the Magi, who were moved by truth to come adore Him (Matthew 2:1-12). It’s clear, worship is the proper response to the gift of revelation in our lives.
So, what now? How does this look in the life our church? Our community?
The Apostle Paul instructed the believers in Rome (see Romans 12:1-2) to look at God’s grace poured out in their lives & offer their very lives to Him. He said it was the only “reasonable” (i.e. smart) thing to do. As a result we will not only be transformed into His image, but also get a better view into the heart of God. So, let us do this at CityLight. Let us adore Him together.”
